about

Cambridge based, Alcopop were Influenced by Broadcast, Blondie, Catatonia and Kenickie, but most often compared to X-Ray Spex due to their inability to control nerves and vocal chords on stage. Allegedly meeting in a local mental hospital, their wonky keyboards, indie aesthetics and huge choruses instantly appealed. They released one ep on R*E*P*E*A*T records before imploding (in the way that most R*E*P*E*A*T bands do). They got as far as a Melody Maker On mention, a single of the week from Lamacq and being played by Mssrs Lamacq and Peel. Guitarist Andrew has since been active in The Vichy Government and Narcissists while vocalist Sarah has begun a successful career in football management.
